[ ??? ? HELLO

temenos, being a normal person who is definitely very good at having conversations, ignores this question in favor of the first part of the conversation with a slightly surprised noise and a tilt of his head. ]

My, have you taken a trip to the heavens before? How blessed.

[ the lofty way he says this suggests he's playing around and not actually Blessed by this admission. but also. what the fuck ]

[ hey what is final fantasy about actually ]

Aha. And yet, here among them we stand, supposedly. [ in the heavens! where's the heavenly kingdom? explain that, gods. ]

And what sort of 'momentary sojourn' brought you up so high? That sounds like quite the story. Or, perhaps quite the fall...?

[ he's a priest

anyway this gets a smile, innocent and definitely teasing. ]

No, I am suggesting that information was in your profile. [ lol ]

Would you prefer I assume you came from the heavens? [ teehee. ]

I thought you might share the story without my having to mention it.

A battle in the heavens? My. I've read many a tale of those, but I can't say I've met someone who lived through one.

[ this is the most interesting thing he's heard on this ship, actually "what about the kidnapping" that too ]

Do you remember your foes, at the very least?

The duty of an inquisitor, my little lamb, is to ask questions.

[ temenos says with a smile, but he will acquiesce to the topic change with relative ease. ]

But, yes, you've a point. Technological achievements aside - that we've even other universes to contend with is a story unto itself.

Confess as you like.

[ teehee. joking aside. ]

There are eight, but the order is that of the Sacred Flame. Aelfric the Flamebringer, and all of his cohort. I don't suppose the name is familiar?

Ah, who would have thought I'd be tasked to recite scripture even here...

[ temenos sighs, but it's also a little bit of a joke, complete with the shaking of his head. ]

Yes - something like that. Rather, [ and despite that put upon sigh, when temenos tells this story, his voice shifts. he is a fine storyteller, and the scriptures are delivered (if summarized) with no flippancy. ] The world as we knew once upon a time existed in utter darkness, wrought by the god of chaos, Vide. It took the eight gods of Solistia a great many battles to defeat it and its forces: seven of the eight were nearly slain. As a last act of sacrifice, they poured their divinity and power into that of Aelfric the Flamebringer, who focused that power unto light. The light is what chases away the darkness - truth lies within the flame.

Ergo, he created the Sacred Flame, which he used to defeat Vide and seal it away, bringing light to the continents and washing the shade of chaos and despair from the world. The souls of the gods, Aelfric included, took upon the form of eight Sacred Flames and remain within Solistia, providing hearth, home and protection to the people of the world.

[ it's another day in spacehell!

temenos is in the bar at the moment, flipping through his IRIS in the way you might expect a ye olde to flip through this kind of device (slowly), and occasionally rifling through a very large stack of papers.

he glances up when he realizes someone's entered the room, though, and hums. ]

Dion. Come for a break from all the excitement?

[ there is literally nothing exciting going on ]

[ oh to be a ye olde.

this melancholy about slaps temenos in the face when he first walks in, jesus. he keeps it to himself beyond a very muted eyebrow raise, at least, but damn bro. the yearning.

on the other hand, his own emotions are awfully muted. there's this sort of level sense of placid, a calmness, but underneath that, a faint ping of something curious. temenos glances back at his papers, then huffs a laugh. ]

Something of the sort. [ echoed. ] I asked for a paper copy of our contract, so I'm combing through it.

[ yeah! thank you for understanding!!! 😊

temenos taps the paper stack with one hand, drumming his fingers on it. ]

Oh, in some manners, I suppose. I thought I might look for any discrepancies, though I'm only about halfway through, at the moment. Truthfully, I'd rather have a paper copy than rely on this device anyhow, so in that regard, it's nice to have.

Though, I'd hardly call it an enjoyable, exciting read, but, there's nothing new there.

[ mood ]

I expect that will be the case. Inevitably, these contracts will change - and even so, it will be an exercise to see if the paper one changes, too.

[ to see if they are fucked with THAT badly. it wouldn't surprise him - temenos's emotional range here is generally thoughtful with a healthy tablespoon of doubt, and he chuckles. ] Perhaps I'll illuminate my own copy in secret.

[ that sounds terrible actually but nothing says Catholic like an illuminated manuscript painstakingly copied by hand by an overworked cleric so he may do it anyway out of spite. ]

I agree. After all, they hardly see us as in captivity. Merely that we signed our own lives away - despite how utterly implausible that very notion is.
