You buy a robot once and it does the work, versus you pay someone on an ongoing basis to do the same work.

Perhaps, but creations such as these much have their own labour associated with maintenance, no? Moreover, given their intricacy, I would assume they'd require rather specialized knowledge.

[ it seems so much easier to simply buy a waiter and let them sleep in a spare room... ]

Companies tend to look at what’s going out of their bank accounts regularly, not the bigger picture. But even then, paying for one of these things off the shelf and accounting for maintenance works out cheaper than funding a living wage.

[ a pause. ] Robots don’t want unions and pay rises either. It’s a pretty grim way of looking at things.

Interesting... I admit at first I was rather impressed by the organization of a large trade such as this, but it is more exploitative than it is beneficial it seems.

People like money, and they get greedy. See the pattern?

People are predictable. There's great ones, and there's crap ones.

If it looks like there’s any to have. Not sure if there is right now, other than just outlasting the contract.

The senior crew are less hostile than expected. At least on the surface.

Except for maybe Callisto. Although they just don’t seem to want to talk.

That's right. They seem to be a somewhat frustrating sort from a distance.

I suppose not everyone desires company. [ losers ] Europa told me much the same.

I guess? Europa’s not too talkative but also kinda blunt. I haven’t spoken to them much though. Callisto— [ he shrugs. ] It feels like they’re dodging you? I’ve heard they didn’t used to be so anti-social though.

Mm. Callisto came up once and— [ he thinks. ] I don’t remember who I was talking to. But they said Callisto’s changed.

Not sure what happened with the lot of them, but if something bad happened to them too that they’re not talking about or can’t talk about, could be why.

[agamid]

Troubling. [ hm ] I suppose it might explain why so many of them are open about their concerns regarding our employment and subsequent events.

They sure went from telling us how good the company was to being more critical about things. Like when you join a company and they stop the cult talk after a week or two.
