[ holy lore. anyway. temenos is as stiff as a person can physically be as dion swings up on the elc behind him. do you know what the means?
that means he is absolutely not holding on. he yelps, the noise completely undignified, and pitches backwards right into dion, arms shooting out to grab onto creature/arm/whatever is within reach so he doesn't immediately eat shit and die?! ]
[ HELP SWEET TEMENOS... dion hadn't actually been holding onto anything with his hands either, but he's ridden enough unruly chocobos to instinctively tightening his legs around the mount when it bucks, and manages to keep his balance when temenos smacks backwards against him. ]
Easy—
[ the elc bucks again, more aggressively this time, but he keeps his hold on both temenos and the mount, leaning forward to rest a hand on its neck until it settles down.
while glancing at temenos out of the corner of his eye, ] I shall not speak of this to anyone.
[ i'm glad the mini event involves riding these things and he has learned nothing.
thank the gods for dion being bulky and temenos being light, because he hits into the solid wall behind him and does not send them both flying. instead, he just instinctually clings onto it a little tighter with his legs and grabs onto dion's arm in a vicegrip, the startled cat aura even more prevalent as the mount bucks AGAIN. this is hell. this is why people walk!!!!
when it finally starts to settle down he finally.... finally starts to loosen his grip a little, staring warily at the back of the elc's head as his shoulders come down from where they were around his ears. he seems to...not be relaxing, but at least be slightly more comfortable if extremely wary - though he gives dion such a Look at that comment ] Very funny.
[ slowly... slowly, he starts to settle backwards again, clearly trying to figure out what the hell he's supposed to do with his limbs and also red at the ears from embarrassment. rip to his dignity. ]
i actually have no idea if there are reins or if you just mind control the ELCs, but i'm going to assign that there is, so dion holds onto the reins and urges the mount forward. it's fairly calm now, trotting along happily as it moves out of the paddock further into the forest.
temenos' awkwardness doesn't escape him, and it's been a while since dion's ridden with a partner, but he guesses it is a little awkward.
oh well. ]
You might enjoy yourself more if you take in the scenery.
[ nudges him a little, and looks toward the trees where there are... lots of trees. ]
Enjoying the scenery is much more possible when one is not about to be thrown to the ground.
[ grumble. but this is just commentary for commentary's sake because he can't Not say something, but also - now that the mount is chilling out, he does start to relax a little further. it's hard to not be tense, because he's half expecting it to decide it wants to buck again for no reason, but with the reassurance that at least he probably won't be tossed off thanks to dion's presence, he seems to be doing a little better.
dion nudges him. so. with a deep breath, he lifts his head up from staring at the elc to actually look out at the sights. it's all trees and snow, here, and despite everything, it is by far the most familiar place that temenos has been so far. it's better than strihira. certainly better than the ship. it is kind of nice, to feel a little more at home.
there's another pause as he starts to settle, and murmurs: ] ... It's rather nice, to see the trees again.
[ he takes his own advice too, even if the chill against his face is colder than he would normally enjoy, and his metal arm is uncomfortably cold against his skin, it is nice to be out in nature again with the steady, familiar rhythm of a mount underneath him.
he huffs out a breath, watching it dissipate into the fog. ]
You're right. I hadn't even realized how fatigued I was with the mechanical machinery and the crowded buildings of Strihira until we arrived here.
[ his head tilts back, gazing up at the overcast sky. his eyes glow briefly gold, though temenos can't see them, pupils narrowing into slits. ]
anyhow. he's not the only one - the. riding part is new, but otherwise, it is sort of nostalgic, to be outside. bittersweet. cold for temenos is only a touch harsh in the crestlands; the winterlands of the north are just around the corner from flamechurch, though, so it's not unfamiliar. it's many winters of snowball fights and hot tea by the fire, and... well.
less pleasant memories. but maybe for another day. those pass over him as he follows dion's gaze upwards to the heavens. the sun, huh? ]
Yes, I agree. The simulations can only do so much. [ ... ] Though, I suppose - that is the beauty of the ability to travel, the way that the Eudora does. Perhaps, were it not for... everything else about our current situation, it could be enjoyable.
[ that's a little bit dry, considering the murder and terrible arkham jail america missions and my castmate returning with no leg in like two days. but - he does like to travel. ]
[ temenos octopath traveler likes to travel? no way...
but he has a point. traveling the stars, seeing new lands, and meeting people so different from those on valisthea would be more exciting and inspiring if not for the agency they've been robbed of. he wonders if it's alright to look at the silver lining, or if its disrespectful to all those who have suffered. ]
It would be my pleasure. [ his voice is a little distant as he answers, before he drags his attention back to the beast beneath them and the path ahead. ] Though Valisthea has been a land troubled by war for most of my life, there is still beauty to it.
